Caroni Employees Kevon "Slippery" Moreno 1998 21 Y.O. 2nd Release
Fortunately, in 2004, Luca Gargano discovered the ossuary of the Caroni warehouses filled with barrels of the legendary heavy rum that aged silently. We have since witnessed a number of exceptional releases, which have proved increasingly popular with collectors and drinkers.
This is part of Velier's Caroni Employees series and honors Kevon "Slippery" Moreno, who worked there for 10 years.
Kevon's version "Slippery" Moreno is a 21 year old 1998 vintage. One of the 1400 bottles produced from a stock of 6 barrels selected by Luca Gargano and other 26 Caroni lovers who have sifted through the warehouses in eight “tasting bands”. (69.5%)

Founded in 1923 on the site of the sugar factory from which it takes its name, Caroni was a key ingredient in the British Navy's rations, where the famous high-ester "heavy" rums help create the distinctive flavor. Unfortunately, as Trinidad's sugar industry declined, the island's distillers became increasingly dependent on imported molasses, making distillation less and less economical. The writing was already on the wall when in 2001 the Trinidad government sold a 49% stake in the holding to Angostura. Caroni was closed in 2002 and a colossus of flavor has been lost in the world.
